The student will plan and conduct a VFR cross country utilizing pilotage, dead reckoning and radio aids (optional) that consists of:

  1. minimum of 2.0 hours in duration
  2. minimum of 0.5 instrument time
  3. a total distance of at least 150 nautical miles
  4. at least 2 legs with at least one leg that consists of a total straight line distance of more than 50 nautical miles.

Some examples include:

This lesson requires 2.0 hours of Dual Cross Country and 0.5 hours Instrument Flight Time. The student will conduct a VFR cross country utilizing pilotage, dead reckoning and radio aids(optional). They should be able to maintain altitude within +/- 200 feet and heading within +/- 10 degrees. They should be able to use the various means of navigation to maintain their planned course within 1.5 miles. They should also be able to divert to an alternate airport computing reasonable estimates of heading, time and fuel consumption. The student will also have a basic understanding of lost procedures.
