Pre-Lesson reading list

• AIM Chapter 4, Section 4 (ATC Clearances & Aircraft Separation)
• IFH Chapter 8, Section 2 (IFR En Route Charts)
• IFH Chapter 9 (ATC System)

Flight plan required for all IFR operations in controlled airspace. (Not required for class G airspace)

Should file your IFR flight plan at least 30 minutes prior to departure (AIM 5-1-8)

• “Road maps for IFR pilot” – to/from SID-STAR
• Ops below 18,000ft
• Airways, limits of controlled airspace, VHF navaids, airports (with communication info), MEA’s, OCA’s, airway distances, reporting points, SUAs, military training routes
• Scales vary from chart to chart (1in = 5nm to 1in = 20nm)
• Revised every 56 days
